How to Become a Knight
of the Order of Saint George?
Belonging to the Knight Community
Belonging to the Order of Saint George (Szent György Lovagrend) is not a matter of title or rank, but a commitment to chivalric values. Becoming a knight is a communal and moral path, built upon the ideals of faith, loyalty and service. Admission to the community of the Order is reserved for individuals who, through their life and activity, have demonstrated their commitment to serving the community, culture and enduring values.
The Process of Becoming a Postulant (candidate for investiture)
Membership in the Order cannot be obtained through application. Postulants are nominated by members of the Order and, with the agreement of the community, may enter the circle of postulants, thereby beginning the process that leads to investiture, which may take up to two years.
During the nomination process, the community takes into consideration:
• the postulant’s personal and professional life path
• their community involvement
• their moral integrity
• their commitment to chivalric values
Becoming a postulant is therefore always an expression of the trust of the chivalric community.
The Knightly Investiture
The investiture takes place within the framework of a solemn ceremony, preceded by a Holy Mass. The ceremony is conducted in accordance with the traditions of the Order and is an important occasion for the entire community.
During the ceremony, the new knight makes a solemn oath to represent the chivalric values in both their life and activity.
Investiture is not only an honor, but also a responsibility: the undertaking of service toward the community.
The Chivalric Mission
Members of the Order of Saint George serve the community. Their activities extend to the preservation of cultural heritage, the support of intellectual life, the organization of community programs and the implementation of charitable initiatives. The chivalric ideal finds its meaning in everyday life: in the representation of values, in the building of communities, and in the assumption of responsibility. Newly invested and existing knights alike are expected to take an active part in the shared events of the community.
